Great place to spend an afternoon. Nice trails, small rolling hills and some nice wetland areas. Perfect place to run with the dog. Wear Orange in the Fall- hunting season.

I have cycled repeatedly on the rail trail from the entrance on Orchard Street through railroad station in Newburyport. Trail was maintained well enough for my hybrid bicycle and my aged legs. Bring bug spray. The access road between the State facility and the railroad trail abuts a beaver dam, and the access road does flood with few inches of water. I road through it, but be careful, and its condition may change.

I am curious to know if the Northeast Shooters gun range and any of the Martin Burns walking trails as well as the native wildlife will be effected by the newly proposed 40b mixed housing development which was announced at the Newbury Town meeting on June 14, 2016, which abuts Martin Burns via Pearson Dr. in Byfield.

Teeming with wildlife – I saw turtles, a groundhog, and numerous birds. A lovely place to park your car and have a walk, and easily accessible from the highway, which you can hear in the parts closer to it. The bugs can be bad in the shade of the trees so repellent is advised.

The rail trail between Highfield Road and the Newburyport rail station is excellent way of staying off the fast moving and trafficked route 1 bridge over the rail tracks.

Very quiet, great walking trail. Go with dogs, but look out for the shooting range and the ticks. The only noise is the distant hum of Rte 95 and the very occasional gun shot. Deer, fox, lots of birds, frogs and lizards, varied plant life.
